2026 M-Sport Ford Puma WRC Reveal: New Livery, Irish Drivers, and Tech Upgrades! (2026)

Get ready, rally fans! M-Sport Ford has unveiled the final, stunning iteration of their Ford Puma Rally1 car, set to tear up the tracks in the 2026 World Rally Championship. This isn't just a car; it's a statement!

This year, the team is ditching the familiar purple livery, complete with Red Bull branding from 2025, for a fresh, eye-catching design in white, green, and blue. But why the change?

Well, the shift is partly fueled by M-Sport's strengthened partnership with Motorsport Ireland and their rally academy. This collaboration has paved the way for an all-Irish driver lineup for 2026, featuring the talented Joshua McErlean and Jon Armstrong.

  • Meet the Drivers:
    • Joshua McErlean: After a stellar rookie season in 2025, the 26-year-old is back for more, proving his mettle after graduating from WRC2.
    • Jon Armstrong: Joining the team is 31-year-old Northern Irishman Armstrong, who's earned his spot after an impressive run as runner-up in the European Rally Championship in 2025, with wins in Wales and Croatia.

But here's where it gets interesting: M-Sport has been hard at work during the off-season, focusing on refining the Puma's geometry and weight balance.

"We have a small plan, but it is likely we won’t use all of the homologation jokers, but there are a couple of things we are looking to do around geometry to let us do a couple of things with the weight, and so forth, to get that balance back," explained Tim Jackson, M-Sport’s lead engineer for the Puma Rally1. This is a crucial area because even small adjustments can lead to significant improvements in performance and handling.

And this is the part most people miss: The team has also been working on brake cooling, a critical but often overlooked aspect. While not a direct performance enhancer, proper brake cooling allows drivers to maintain peak performance throughout the race.

"Brake cooling isn’t a performance item but getting it right allows you to optimise your brake packages and means you can continue that performance right through the stages, whereas the driver may say that the brake pedal was going off towards the end of the stage, and that might have affected their ability to drive at 100%," Jackson noted.

The team wrapped up pre-season testing in the south of France last week, gearing up for the Monte Carlo curtain-raiser.

"Our test has gone really well. Obviously our driver line-up is quite a young one. Jon is new to the team so there is a lot of focus on getting him settled into the team and trying to build up mileage and experience to have confidence to take forward into the rally," Jackson said, highlighting the focus on integrating Armstrong into the team.

"We are realistic with our expectations but Monte Carlo is a rally where if you can be solidly good throughout the course of the weekend you can be up there at the end of the rally. Let the other people push hard and make mistakes, and us develop as the rally goes on.”
