GBPH Vaccine Clinics: Protect Your Child from Suspension & Disease (2026)

Attention everyone! We have an important update regarding vaccine clinics and student health. The Grey Bruce Public Health (GBPH) is taking action to ensure local students stay in school and avoid suspension risks.

Let's dive into the details. GBPH has been actively assisting families since the summer to ensure students comply with the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA). However, there's still work to be done, as many students' immunization records remain incomplete.

Here's where it gets controversial: the ISPA requires Health Units to maintain and review these records, and school boards to enforce suspensions for students with missing or overdue immunizations. Unless an exemption is granted, students face the risk of being suspended from school.

And this is the part most people miss: GBPH recently issued suspension notices to approximately 900 students whose immunization records were still not up to date. That's a significant number!

Monica Blair, Program Manager of Vaccine Preventable Diseases, emphasizes the importance of updated records. She states, "Having an updated immunization record is crucial for students to comply with the ISPA and avoid suspension. It also benefits families during outbreaks, as vaccinated students can continue attending classes even if a vaccine-preventable disease is circulating in their school."

To address this issue, GBPH's Vaccine Preventable Diseases team is stepping up with vaccine clinics across Grey-Bruce communities throughout March, including during the March Break. This is a great opportunity for students to get their records updated and stay in compliance.

You can find the clinic calendar online at GBPH Website.

So, what are your thoughts on mandatory vaccinations and school attendance? Do you think these measures are necessary to protect public health, or do they infringe on individual rights? We'd love to hear your opinions in the comments below! Feel free to share your experiences and insights, and let's have a respectful discussion on this important topic.
