Palace and Vans Collaborate on a New Skate Shoe: A Unique Blend of Style and Functionality
Palace and Vans are back with their second limited-edition skate shoe, and it's a real head-scratcher. The Palace x Vans Low 2 is a humble-sounding shoe, but its progenitors are touting it as the "Skate Shoe of the Year." This bold claim is supported by a fake award show in a promotional video, which is a clever way to announce the shoe's release. The video features Vans team riders Danny Brady and Rory Milanes, who accept an award for the hyper-specific category of "Best Supporting Cushioning in a Vulcanized Low-Top."
The Low 2 is a rework of the original Vans Low, with a new upper that carries many of the same lines but without the patch from its predecessor, which was a clear tie to the Half Cab. Instead, a swan logo is placed more centrally at midfoot and again on the tongue, with the collar and lacing system as the most significant revisions for a shoe that aims to bridge the aesthetics of London and California.
The technical materials are consistent between the two Lows, with up-to-date PopCush insoles, DuraCap underlays in high-wear zones, and a SickStick rubber compound applied to the classic waffle pattern outsole. This ensures a comfortable and durable ride for skaters.
The Low 2 will be available in two colorways: a tonal white and cream mix, and a straight black upper with a gum sole. This gives skaters two stylish options to choose from.
The Palace x Vans Low 2 will be released exclusively through Palace's website and stores on Friday. Pricing has not yet been confirmed, but the shoe is sure to be a popular choice for skaters and fashion enthusiasts alike.
