Toyota GR Corolla RC2: The New Rally Car Taking on the ARA in 2025! (2026)

Toyota's Rally Revolution: A New Era for the Corolla

The iconic Toyota Corolla, a rally legend, is making a comeback to American roads, and it's set to create a storm!

After over 25 years, Toyota has unveiled the GR Corolla RC2, a rally car developed by Toyota Gazoo Racing. This exciting news has rally enthusiasts buzzing, as it marks a significant shift in Toyota's rally strategy.

The GR Corolla RC2, tested by rally stars Jari-Matti Latvala and Juho Hänninen, will make its American debut at the 100 Acre Wood Rally in March. Driven by the talented Seth Quintero, this car is more than just a rally machine; it's a symbol of Toyota's commitment to rallying and its efforts to create better road cars.

But here's where it gets controversial... Toyota is considering a second car for selected rounds through 2026, which could shake up the ARA series.

This isn't Toyota's first rodeo with the Corolla. The TE20/27, driven by Hannu Mikkola, won the 1975 1000 Lakes Rally, and the Corolla WRC dominated the 1999 WRC manufacturers' title. Since then, Toyota focused on the Yaris, but now, it's the Corolla's time to shine again.

The GR Corolla RC2 draws inspiration from the GR Yaris Rally2, a back-to-back WRC2 champion. It boasts a powerful 1600cc, three-cylinder turbocharged engine and transmission, ensuring it performs at Rally2 levels, as described by Toyota.

Toyota Gazoo Racing explains, "TGR-WRT aims to build on the Corolla's rallying heritage and further its mission to improve road cars through motorsport. We also hope to boost rallying's development in North America, where the GR Corolla offers a unique rally-bred performance experience."

Quintero, already a part of the TGR family in the World Rally Raid Championship, is excited but admits he has much to learn. He's tested the GR Corolla RC2 alongside Latvala and Hänninen, and the experience has been nothing short of incredible.

Quintero shares, "I'm honored to join this team and learn from the best. Rallying is a new challenge, and I'm eager to adapt to the intensity of stage rallying. Switching between the GR Corolla and the DKR GR Hilux will be an interesting journey, but I'm confident we'll have a blast!"

So, what do you think? Is Toyota's move a bold step towards rallying dominance, or is it a strategic mistake? Share your thoughts in the comments; we'd love to hear your opinions on this exciting development!
