Two More Arrests Made in XL Bully Dog Attack Investigation
The investigation into the tragic death of a nine-month-old boy in a dog attack in south-east Wales has led to two further arrests. The baby, Jonte William Bluck, was bitten by his family's XL bully dog while staying at his father's home in Crossway, Rogiet, on November 2nd. An inquest opening revealed a compressive head injury, consistent with a dog bite, as the provisional cause of death.
Gwent Police arrested a 30-year-old man and a 60-year-old woman from Chepstow on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. This brings the total number of arrests to four. The dog, a six-year-old XL bully, was registered, and a certificate of exemption was issued in 2024, before the breed was banned. The village of Rogiet has called the attack 'heart-breaking'.
Despite the ban on owning XL bullies without an exception certificate, the number of dog attacks in England and Wales increased in 2024 compared to the previous year. According to Freedom of Information figures, there were 31,920 dog attacks on people recorded, a 2% increase from 2023. However, three police forces did not provide usable data, which may affect the accuracy of the figures.
Assistant Chief Constable Vicki Townsend urged the public not to speculate, emphasizing that online commentary can impact the investigation. She offered condolences to everyone affected by the tragic death, highlighting the ongoing importance of a thorough investigation.
